Developer Blog #6

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all having a great end to the term and are looking forward to a well-deserved break over the upcoming holiday period.

As we wrap up this term, I wanted to update you on what we’ve been up to at TeachersAI. It’s been a big term for us, marking our first full term in our Early Access Build state. We’ve had our first users test our site, providing fantastic feedback, and experienced a larger-than-expected demand from schools interested in trying out our platform. We’ve received some really encouraging comments from early users who are pleased with the workload reduction they are now experiencing as a result of TeachersAI.

Our team has been diligently working on continued testing at scale, and we are pleased to continue to report that things are going better than we anticipated. We have gathered valuable feedback and managed to incorporate some of the requested features directly into the system, which are detailed later in this blog. Other requested features by new users have been noted and recorded for future implementation.

Given our small development team, we have focused our resources on the big end-of-term patch. Our team has been working on one of our major updates, and we are aiming to launch it during the holiday period. This will allow us to test the features live, and you will be able to do so as well, hopefully helping us sort out any major issues before the start of the new term.

Additions and Improvements

As per the last blog, our updates over the last fortnight include:

  • Autosave Feature: This new feature saves work that children input every 30 seconds. It ensures that children’s work doesn’t get deleted if there is an internet outage, closed screen, computer crash, etc.
  • Word Counter: Tracks how many paragraphs and words a student has written into the text field so far.

Sample of student work from Year 5 – Note the added Word Counter in the bottom right corner.
  • UI Improvements: Users and students now have the ability to collapse the text boxes and editing options. This declutters the screen if so desired. This is a first pass on this part of the UI. We need to create an ability to enlarge the text input box to make it easier to see at a glance what a student has entered. This is one of the improvements we will look at in Term 3.

Bug Fixes

  • Payment Processing Issue: Fixed an issue with payment processing.
  • Company Branding and Invoices: Added company branding and clarity to invoices. This should now make it less confusing for users to identify the origins of the invoice at a glance.
  • Memory Issue: Fixed a memory issue that was causing the blog to crash.

Upcoming Update

Keep a lookout for our upcoming end of term update over the next few weeks. This update should not cause any issues with the existing data of student assessments. We will do everything we can to ensure that no data is lost, but we do strongly recommend saving and/or storing your data over the next few days. Use the Excel export feature as the fastest and safest option presently.

Feel free to play with the update over the holidays to test out its features and help us identify any bugs in the code before or just after school returns. This update will include first passes at features like rubric integration and the AITA TeachersAI chatbot. We highly value your feedback on these new additions, as it helps us improve the platform to better meet your needs.

As a reminder, if you or your school is interested in becoming a trial school for TeachersAI, please let me know. We are seeking new schools to trial our upcoming schools accounts for the remainder of 2024. I am more than happy to discuss this further and provide any necessary support. You can contact me directly at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support and engagement with TeachersAI. We look forward to bringing you these key new features and hearing your feedback. We will be back in the new term with the next Developer Diary. Enjoy your break!

Cheers,

Stuart
