Developer Blog #3

Welcome to all our new users and our regular readers! We’re thrilled to have you join us this early in the development as we continue to expand TeachersAI. This installment of our Developer Diary might be a bit shorter, as part of our development team has been taking a well-deserved break. Nonetheless, the wheels of progress keep turning, and we’ve been engaging in some significant research and development, inspired by suggestions from some of our very first users.

Our focus during this period has been on enhancing the site’s functionality and user experience. While some of our team members have been away, those of us here have dedicated our time to integrating valuable user feedback into our platform’s development. Whether it’s improving existing features or pioneering new ones, every step we take is aimed at making TeachersAI more efficient and responsive to your educational needs. Let’s dive into the updates and what’s new in the world of TeachersAI.

Enhancements and New Features

Backend Improvements: We’ve made substantial improvements to our backend systems to enhance how we manage user communications and monitor activation statuses. These upgrades include more robust tracking mechanisms and optimized data handling, which ensure that our team can respond more effectively to user needs and maintain a seamless operational flow.

New Writing Task Types: Responding to the feedback from our high school users, we have expanded our writing tasks to include more varied types, such as diary entries and essay writing. This expansion is designed to better accommodate the diverse academic requirements of high school educators and students. By broadening our task types, we enable educators to apply our tools in more contexts, enhancing the relevance and applicability of TeachersAI across different learning scenarios. These new task types not only enrich the user experience but also support a broader spectrum of writing skills from your students.

Ongoing Issues and Future Improvements

In good news we have no new ongoing issues to report over the last fortnight. However, we encourage everyone to keep an eye out and mention any bugs in the comments section of this blog. Your feedback is crucial for continuous improvement.

Sneak Peek at Upcoming Content: AI-Enhanced Marking Rubrics

In response to high demand from our early users, we are excited to offer a preview of one of our most anticipated features currently in active development: AI-enhanced marking rubrics that are linked to your state’s curriculum. This highly requested feature is designed to support educators by providing a structured and consistent framework for evaluating student work, and to enhance the accuracy of our AI’s grading capabilities.

Development Status: Our team is focused on developing AI-generated and user-improved marking rubrics. These rubrics will align with specific standards and benchmarks of various state curricula, ensuring tailored support that meets local educational needs. By automating routine aspects of grading, this feature allows teachers to concentrate more on providing qualitative feedback and personalized instruction.

User Involvement and Feedback: Recognizing the importance of precision, we plan to involve our users in the beta testing phase. We are about a month away from releasing version 1 of these rubrics for user review. Your insights will be crucial in refining their functionality and usability, making sure they meet the educational requirements effectively.

Anticipated Impact: The integration of these AI-enhanced rubrics into TeachersAI aims to streamline the assessment process while significantly improving the accuracy and reliability of grading feedback, complementing the extensive written feedback our system already provides. Educators will be able to customize these rubrics for various assignments and outcomes, enabling clearer, more targeted communication of student progress.

Conclusion

This fortnight, we’ve dedicated a significant amount of time to developing upcoming content in both code and design, with more exciting innovations in the pipeline. Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your continued support and feedback, which are vital in driving our progress at TeachersAI.

Cheers,

Stuart
